Week 4

 

Besides, my supervisor had assigned me to help my colleague to carry on her daily daily jobs in the lobby reception for a few days because she will be going on a holiday after her wedding which was held in last two weeks. Therefore, I will carry on the same duties as last two weeks. At this time, I will be responsible to distribute the annual leaves or the time off form to the workers who want to take a leave. After they had fill in the form, they will need to get their supervisor to sign to prove that their supervisor had approved their leave. Besides, sometimes they will also submit their Medical Certification (MC) to me too. At the end of the day, I will be responsible to file in all the leave forms, time off forms and Medical Certification (MC) that the workers given to me and chop on the date before I pass all the forms and explain to my colleague Jasmine from the Human Resource Department. Furthermore, sometimes there will be a few candidates walk in to our office to apply for a job. Hence, I will need to give them the job application form to fill in and also help them to photostat their IC and certificates to keep it as a reference. Besides, sometimes there will be a few suppliers come to the office to ask for the payment. Then, I will need to look out for the cheque and pass to them. In addition, I must make sure that the supplier had signed and written down the date on the payment voucher after they have received the cheque so that our company can keep it as a proof to show that we had given the cheque to them. 

 

Furthermore, my supervisor had also assigned me to do some research based on our company's competitors who manufactures the oil tanker in Malaysia and also in other foreign countries too. As a result, there are a few competitors such as Scomi Group Berhad, Heil Trailer and China International Marine Containers (CIMC) which is located in Malaysia and other foreign countries. Besides, I have also look out for the competitors' annual report for the past ten year and summarize the competitors' revenues in a table format so that my supervisor can compare our company's performance with other competitors' performance. After that, I will also need to find out the type of materials that the competitors used in the process of manufacturing. In addition, our company is specialized in using aluminium to manufacture the oil tanker. The objective of conducting this research is to compare our company's performance with the competitors. Then, I have also work together with my colleague to suggest some recommendations to my supervisor on the ways to improve our business performance. Moreover, I have also faced a problem in conducting the research because I am not familiarize with the terms that the engineering industry used. Therefore, I have to ask my colleague to explain to me and at the same time I will also look up for the meaning through the online dictionary too. By conducting this research, I have learnt that goal setting is an important procedure in the process of planning. A company must set their own goals in order for them to be successful in the engineering industry. In the future, I hope that I can utilize my knowledge in the engineering industry to help the company to build a good reputation. 

 

 

 

Moreover, my supervisor had also asked me to look for some information such as does our company need to pay for the goods and service tax (GST) if our company wants to sell off the business asset which is totally damage. Therefore, I had search through the internet and found out that our company is not responsible to pay for the GST if the business asset is sell as scrap. However, if our company sells the business asset that is totally damaged, we eventually will need to pay for the GST. It is important for the company to know the details of the latest information on GST as in which situation does the company need to pay for the GST. If the company did not pay the GST within a period of time, our company will subject to pay a fixed amount of penalty. One of the problem that I faced during the research is time constraint because my supervisor wants me to give her the information within 15 minutes time. Therefore, I had used the speed reading skill to highlight the key points in the articles within a short period of time. Furthermore, I have also learnt that I must make a habit to read the newspaper everyday so that I will know the current affairs happening around the world. Hence, it is important for me to know all these news because it will eventually help me to build up my basic knowledge and improve my work productivity in the future.
