Background of Symphony Manufacturing and Services Sdn. Bhd.

 

Symohony Manufacturing and Services Team  has 15 years of experiences in engineering and fabrication for oil and gas downstream distribution industry. Our company is specialized in manufacturing aluminium alloy tankers for major petroleum companies dedicated to Malaysian, ASEAN and Australasia OEM (original equipment manufacturer markets.

 

In addition to expand the core business of custome engineering in fuel transport equipments, Symphony aims to be a leading solution provider to oil and gas industries in fleet maintenance and systems, oil and gas terminal and technical support services.

 

Symphony Team has a proven track of gaining great supports from technology partners around the world through strategic alliances in introducing proven and quality product for our clients to further improve their fleet operations. Our commitment to excellent quality and achieve beyond expectations has brought us good reputation amongst major customers and global oil majors such as Shell Oil, ExxonMobil and Chevron.

 

Some major achievements are: 

 

(1) The First Tapered Tanker: the single largest fuel tanker (51-tonne) in the region.

Achieves 10% lower in height, the most maneuverable tanker in the market. Enabled

clients to increase double haulage trips, improving productivity.

 

 

                                                                       (2) First B-Double tanker of-its-kind in Malaysia and Asia - commissioned by Petronas to                                                                              build its fleet of B-Double tankers by virtue of our proven track record and success in                                                                                    building similar tankers for export to Australia.

 

 

 

(3) Introduced WINGlider, the First of-its-kind aluminium cargo trailer in Malaysia - 

similar to the Japanese trailers but higher in capacity to haul high value goods such as

Service and Maintenance Division

 

Building on our 15 years of industry knowledge and experiences, Symphony's Services and Maintenance Division is expanding into one of our core business units. The focus would be providing value add services, customized and package solutions and introducing new technologies that improve and maximize fleet performances. Apart from fleet maintenance, the other two major areas are oil terminal and technical inspection services.

 

(a) Fleet Maintenance Services - Fuel Tanker 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

               - Preventive Maintenance and After-Sales Services - Scheduled services to be conducted at intervals to maintain tankers 

                 and ensure they are running in tip-top condition.

               - Refurbishment and upgrading of tankers - For aged or damaged tankers requiring a major facelift, highly-detailed work                                 that includes refurbishing and upgrading is carried out at our manufacturing plant.

               - Fleet Preventive Maintenance Programs - As part of our assurance to customers, training as well as skills and technology                           transfer are provided for drivers on new tankers' safety technology and maintenance.

               - On-site repair and maintenance - In case of breakdowns during transportation, a fully-equipped team will be dispatched                               to be breakdown site to carry out repair or maintenance works within a stipulated time frame. This does not include hot                                jobs such as welding or grinding.

               -  24 hours on-call emergency services - A ready team is maintained at all times to attend to our customers' needs during                               any time of the day or night including public holidays when they have a critical situation.

                - Custom Maintenance and Engineering Service (Scheduled Servicing and Maintenance).

 

Value Added Service for Fuel Tanker

 

               - Installation of handrail at tanker walkway

               - Installation of speed limiter on prime mover

               - Installation of PTO and product pump on prime mover

               - Conversion from top loading to bottom loading

               - Accident tanker repair or new paint work

               - Tanker running gear maintainance and modification from quad axles to tri axles

In this internship, I will be working in the account and finance department at Symphony. Furthermore, there are a total of 5 person in this department. Also, my supervisor Ms. Carol Chia is the manager of the account and finance department. Then, my other three colleagues and I is under her supervision. Hence, she is responsible to manage and resolve all the conflicts with the clients in a timely, efficient manner to ensure repeated business and client loyalty. Besides, she will also generate sales for a portfolio of company accounts to reach the comapny's sale target goals. Moreover, she will also be responsible to manage the cash flow and maintain the credit availability to ensure the company is able to meet the financial demands of its operations. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the finance department, my colleague Ms. Tee is the assistance finance manager. There are a few tasks that Ms. Tee is responsible. Firstly, she will provide the management information to the manager because the manager will require the ongoing financial information so that she can make a better decision. For example, she will want the information about how much it costs to produce a particular product or service, in order to assess how much to produce and whether it might be more worthwhile to switch to making an alternative product. Secondly, she will also be reponsible in managing the wages. The wages section of the finance department will be responsible for calculating the wages and salaries of employees and organising the collection of income tax and national insurance for the Inland Revenue. However, my other colleague Liza is also from the finance department. There are a few tasks that Liza will do such as she will be responsible for all the day to day transactional accounting for the business.  This will include the tracking of all transactions, keeping the records of the purchases and sales made by a business as well as capital spending and the management of any government reporting. Morever, she is also responsible on working with the manager to prepare the organization’s budgets and forecasts, and to report back on the progress against these throughout the year.  This information can be used to plan staffing levels, asset purchases and expansions and cash needs, before they become necessary. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the account department, my colleague Rachel is the senior account executive. There are a few tasks that Rachel is responsible. Firstly, she will be responsible in the payroll function. The payroll function of an accounting department ensures that the organization pays its employees accurately, including bonuses, commissions and benefits. The department monitors employees' time off, vacation and sick days. Besides, she is also responsible in the account payable section. For instance,  the accounts payable section of an accounting department will records the goods and services that it receives and the payments it owes, such as inventory from a supplier or other expenses. As for my responsible in this department, I am responsible to check all the suppliers' statement month by month. Whenever I receive a supplier's statement, I will compare the statement with the purchase invoices in the SQL accounting software. Besides, I am also responsible to key in the data for the service tax and sales tax into the Microsoft Excel daily.
